Talkhao teaches the words of each HSK level, then gives you someone to use them with: Xiaolu, a speaking partner who replies in Mandarin.

Start with HSK 1

How it works

• 1. Pick a level

  Begin at HSK 1, or wherever you already are. Each word has its characters, pinyin and English.

• 2. Practise for a few minutes

  Short rounds. A word you get wrong returns sooner; a word you know waits longer.

• 3. Say it to Xiaolu

  Once a word feels familiar, use it in a conversation. Xiaolu keeps to your level.

Lessons for HSK 1 to 3

Each lesson is a short story in Mandarin with pictures and audio, the words and grammar it uses, and a talk with Xiaolu at the end. All of HSK 1 is free.
