Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
Talkhao is made by Yojowa LLC. In this policy, “we” means Yojowa LLC.
This policy covers Talkhao on talkhao.ai and in the Talkhao apps for iOS and Android, which show the same website.
Information We Collect
When you sign in, we store:
- Your email address, from the sign-in provider you choose (Google or Apple). If you use Apple's “Hide My Email”, this is the relay address Apple gives us.
- If you sign in with Apple: your Apple account identifier, and a token from Apple that lets us end Talkhao's access to your Apple account when you delete your Talkhao account.
- Your learning data: the wordsets you use, the words you practise, your answers and your practice history.
Your daily streak is not on our servers: it is kept in your browser, on your device.
You can practise without an account, as a guest. We do not ask a guest for an email address. Your guest session uses a random identifier, kept in your browser, and we store your learning data under it: the words you practise, your answers, your practice history, the list you last practised, and the HSK level and exam date if you choose them. If you sign in, this data moves to your account. If a guest session has no practice for 90 days, we delete its data.
Talk
When you use Talk, we save a text record of the session (what you said, as heard, and Xiaolu's replies) without your name or email, for 30 days, to improve Talk. We don't keep recordings of your voice. Deleting your account deletes these records.
AI Assistants
You can add Talkhao to an AI assistant, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity or Le Chat. The assistant then asks Talkhao about Chinese words. If you connect your Talkhao account, it can also show your progress and save words you choose to your reviews.
- Talkhao's answers go to the assistant you are using. Its provider handles them, and your conversation, under its own privacy policy. We never send your email address to an assistant.
- When you connect your account, our sign-in service (auth.yojowa.com) keeps the connection: which assistant it is, when it connected and when it was last used.
- For each request an assistant makes, we keep the tool used, the assistant, how long it took, whether it worked, and your account identifier (or, when you aren't signed in, a coded form of the assistant's anonymous identifier), for 30 days. We don't keep your conversation, your prompts or the words you asked about. Words an assistant saves for you are kept like words you save on talkhao.ai.
- To disconnect an assistant, open Profile, then Connected assistants, and choose Disconnect. Its access ends within a minute. Deleting your account disconnects every assistant.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how Talkhao is used: pages viewed, actions such as signing in, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. We do not send your email address or account identifier to Google Analytics, so this data is not linked to your account. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and Talkhao shows no ads.
On the website we also use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used: which parts of a page people tap or click, how far they scroll, and replays of how a page was used in a session. Clarity masks what you type and the text on the page, and it uses cookies to recognise a returning browser. We do not send your email address or account identifier to Clarity, and it is not used in the Talkhao app. How Microsoft handles this data is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
How We Use Your Information
- To sign you in and keep your progress on every device you use
- To schedule your practice: which words are due
- To improve Talkhao, using the analytics described above
- To answer you when you write to us
Sharing
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only with the services that run Talkhao for us: Google Cloud, which hosts our servers and database; Google Analytics; Microsoft Clarity, on the website; and Google or Apple, for the sign-in you choose. If you use Talkhao in an AI assistant, its answers go to that assistant's provider, as described above.
Data Storage and Security
Talkhao is served only over HTTPS, so your information is encrypted on its way to and from us. Your account and learning data are kept for as long as your account exists.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account and its data at any time:
- In Talkhao: open Profile, then Delete account, and confirm.
- On the web: go to talkhao.ai/account/delete, sign in, and confirm.
- If you can't sign in: email [email protected] from the account's address, and we'll delete it.
Deleting removes your sign-in, your wordsets and your practice history, and ends Talkhao's access to your Apple account if you used Sign in with Apple. It can't be undone.
Your Rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected].
Children
Talkhao is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has given Talkhao personal information, write to [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
